Delia L. Weaver is an educator with a lifelong love of learning. One of her earliest and most profound lessons came from her father, who taught Delia and her siblings to grow their money instead of just saving it. “As a Mexican immigrant and small business owner, my father was used to seeing many of his contemporaries work until their death out of financial necessity,” she reflected.

With her father’s guidance top of mind, Delia started to contribute to her 403(b) in addition to monthly contributions to the Teacher Retirement System (TRS) of Texas. She also signed up for an additional life insurance policy, a chronic care policy, and disability insurance, which she funded through monthly payroll deductions.

As a former administrator, Delia saw firsthand the hardship educators experience due to a lack of knowledge about their district’s benefits and the TRS. “Many of my colleagues were staying on the job well past retirement age,” she shared. “They could not afford to stop working, despite having contributed to their TRS, and in some cases a 403(b) retirement plan, throughout their careers.”

Educators often feel tethered to their pension after a decadeslong career. But after studying the numbers and considering how another 16 years in the district would impact her mental and financial well-being, Delia knew that it was time to leave the work she cherished. Cloaked in her husband Jason’s support and her father’s wisdom, Delia took a leap of faith. “My father always encouraged us to take calculated risks so we could build and never outlive our wealth,” she shared.

Delia worked in consulting for a year. But the sense of purpose she had gleaned as an educator was missing. Destined to teach and empathetic to the needs of her former Northside Independent School District colleagues, Delia became a financial representative in 2023. She decided to use her personal experience, knowledge of the TRS pension and district benefits, and the resources of the insurance and financial services company she joined to guide educators through a more holistic approach to income protection and retirement.

Delia thrived as a financial rep. She helped so many teachers and families protect their income and begin building wealth for retirement with insurance and financial services products that Delia won numerous accolades and was recognized as the top performer amongst financial reps of similar tenure.

Today, Delia is a managing associate at Think Net Tailored Wealth Solutions (Think Net). The agency helps clients protect their hard-earned income, build wealth, and prepare to retire comfortably. It is affiliated with Guardian, a Fortune 300 insurance and benefits company that has been helping customers prepare for their financial future since 1860.

As a founding member of Think Net’s leadership team, Delia is helping to shape the direction of the firm, which serves all of Texas. Additionally, she will have the unique opportunity to continue guiding her beloved educators through the process of preparing for a well-deserved retirement while simultaneously recruiting and developing her own team of financial representatives.

Delia is eager to recruit and develop teachers who remain passionate about learning and enlightening others but realize their time in academia is up. “The best educators listen with empathy, simplify the complex, and manage their time wisely,” she reasoned. “These are all transferable skills that will help give any educator who commits to Think Net’s training a fast start as a financial rep.” In addition to unlimited earning potential, the busy mother of a high schooler and college freshman said that a career as a financial rep offers former educators one more benefit they rarely enjoyed during the school year: a flexible schedule.

Delia’s gift of servant leadership extends beyond her career in the insurance and financial services industry. She continues to volunteer at different schools within the Northside ISD and is an active member in the family’s church, Our Lady of Guadalupe Helotes.
